Archaeology and architectural fragments are the usual tantalizing hints
left by such early gardens. Campden House is blessed with some of the
most complete garden remains from this period, to survive anywhere in
the country. The East and West Banqueting Houses are linked by the clearly
visible lines of their terraced promenades and formal planting beds.
At Stanway, the treacle-coloured stonework of the Gatehouse together
with its walled courtyard, terraced garden and clairvoie dating from the
1720s or 30s, present one of the most pleasing images of Gloucestershire.
