Date and Time
DATE TO BE CONFIRMED.
GGLT members are invited to join author and historian David Aldred on a guided walk of Cleeve Hill Common, about 5 miles north east of Cheltenham.
This gentle walk of around 2.7 miles will seek to examine the remains of two possible eighteenth century designed landscapes. The first is depicted in Kip’s engraving of Southam House for Sir Robert Atkyns’ county history in 1712, and a later sketch in 1760 by the local artist Thomas Robins indicates designed planting. Descriptions along the walk will also describe the history of early settlers as well as the nineteenth century increase in leisure and recreation which has affected this area. The walk will ascend to the Cleeve Cloud Hillfort and ‘The Three Sisters’, with its own more recent changes.
