Date and Time
Woodchester Park House, known until the turn of this century simply as The Cottage, was originally the Ducies’ gardener’s cottage but then rebuilt by the architect of the Mansion (Benjamin Bucknall) in his characteristic style, initially for William Leigh to live in while the Mansion was being built and then much extended by him when Leigh’s son called a halt to work on the Mansion and decided to live in The Cottage permanently.
The garden, set largely within the C18 walled garden, has been designed and tended by the present owners (one of whom is the daughter of Rosemary Verey) since 1995. Approx 3 acres, incorporating extensive herbaceous borders, a yew walk, a rose covered belvedere overlooking a large pond, a woodland garden, rose walk, vegetable garden and terrace. There is a wide variety of plants and settings.
£10 per person, including refreshments. A limited number of steps and steep slopes.
